Virtual Sanctuary Way

Calling all Members, Parents, Carers, Staff, Volunteers, and supporters!

We are raising money to support the work of Ripon Community Link by walking a ‘virtual’ Sanctuary Way.  Getting exercise, staying safe and raising money for our charity.
We want to raise £500 to buy easy to clean tools for use in the Garden to help us stay safe.
Sanctuary Way is a 10 mile route around our beautiful city following the course of the original 8 sanctuary markers. Once within the boundary of the markers you could claim sanctuary from the Cathedral!
The Rotary Club of Ripon and the Ripon Rowels installed replica Sanctuary makers in 2005 to celebrate their centenary.  They have been linked to provide a circular walk.  Details can be found on this leaflet.

We are not asking you to walk the Sanctuary way – you will do it ‘virtually’.  We are asking you to track any exercise you do during the day between Monday 8th June and Friday 19th June 2020.  We will add all of your distances up each day with the aim of ‘virtually’ covering the 10 miles together!

Always follow government advice with your exercise and stay safe!  We want to hear about any distance you have covered, a trip to the supermarket, a stroll round the block, moving around while you are gardening walking to fill the watering can, an evening walk or early morning run or cycle.  If you move – let us know!

The event will be running from Monday 8th June to Friday 19th June with daily updates on how far we have walked, cycled, hopped, wheeled etc. Over the period of two weeks we hope to cover 10 miles.

With the outbreak of Covid-19 we knew the best way to keep our service users safe would be to shut down our sites.  While we know that this was absolutely the right decision it has impacted on our ability to raise funds.  We can no longer makes sales in the Tearoom, plant nursery or shop and all our planned fundraising events had to be cancelled.  This has really impacted on the income we are able to generate, which is vital for the charity.
By undertaking the Virtual Sanctuary Way we hope to raise £500 for new tools which have plastic handles so they are easier to clean making them safer to use.  This will be essential for us when we are able to full open our services again.
