Our Members were delighted to join the crowd of supporters outside the One Eyed Rat pub in Ripon to wave off “Team One Eyed Rat” as they set off on the incredible Rat Run – a 1,300-mile banger rally all the way to Benidorm!
The Rat Run is an annual charity challenge that sees around 200 cars take to the road for an adventure across Europe. The teams travel through France and over the Pyrenees, taking on a mixture of long drives, challenges and plenty of adventures along the way, all while raising much-needed funds for charity.
Team One Eyed Rat is made up of Andy, Darren, Mike, Scott and Tony, who are travelling in two very unique bangers! Each car cost less than £600 and, between them, the two cars have an incredible 300,000 miles on the clock.
Both cars have been sponsored by The One Eyed Rat pub and they won’t be difficult to spot. One has been transformed into a giant rat and is completely covered in grey carpet, while the other is covered in colourful One Eyed Rat stickers.
Before they set off, our Members delivered a very important supply of Walled Garden cakes to help keep the team fuelled for their epic journey. They also had great fun meeting the team, admiring the cars and, of course, posing for photos in the Giant Rat!
We are incredibly grateful to Team One Eyed Rat for choosing Ripon Walled Garden as one of the two local charities they are supporting. We’ll be cheering them on from the Walled Garden and wishing them a safe, successful and very exciting journey!

Both the bangers and the team made it all the way to Benidorm, and it looks like they had a fantastic time along the way!
They have raised an impressive amount of money for their two local charities, and we’re very proud to be one of them.
