Stephen, the support worker who leads our Media Session, was talking to his group about his previous role as a projectionist. Stephen is a man of many talents! He explained how cinema is a form of media, using moving images, sound and stories to inform and entertain people.
In our Media Group, we film videos about the Walled Garden to let the public know what’s happening and share these videos on social media. The cinema also uses media to promote various businesses through adverts, much like we use our videos to promote Ripon Walled Garden.
The group were delighted to have the opportunity to visit the cinema in Thirsk and go behind the scenes to see how the pictures are brought to life on the big screen. The Members learned about the history of the cinema and discovered that it has been an important part of the local community for over 100 years.
The visit also coincided with Louis returning to the group. He was really keen to get involved and said it was a great first day back after a long spell away.
As you can see from the photographs, all the Members seemed to thoroughly enjoy this interesting and informative visit.
