Café & Retail

Our shop enables Members to learn and develop retail skills, from stocking shelves to serving customers.  Members are supported to welcome and communicate with our customers as they buy plants, gifts and home-made jams, chutneys and apple juice, pressed from apples grown in our Orchard.

Members are encouraged to learn and improve their money recognition and how to handle money as they use our adapted till system so that they can be fully involved in every sale and follow a sales process as they communicate and develop confidence in a work-based environment.

Members can be supported if needed, to learn about catering in our popular and busy café.  Members learn a wide range of skills in all aspects of café work from serving customers on our adapted accessible till, through to washing up and stacking the dishwasher, making sure the serving area is clean and talking to customers to gather feedback on their visitor experience. These sessions help Members develop a wide range of skills that will help them in their independent lives, from money recognition and management, to following instructions, social and communication skills and more practical skills to help them to help look after themselves within a kitchen. We place emphasis on building confidence and developing social skills so that Members can communicate well and build their self-esteem as they expand their essential life skills.

Our local community is very supportive of our café, and as our Members are showcasing their skills, we aim to break down barriers and share exactly how able our Members are.
