The Power of Ten

Today, we welcomed our young volunteers Evie, Isla, Olivia and Rosie to the Walled Garden to receive their Power of Ten certificates from Jo Thackwray, who leads the youth volunteering initiative run by Harrogate & District Community Action.

The girls, who attend Outwood Academy and Ripon Cathedral School, received their ten and twenty-hour certificates and are already well on their way to achieving their fifty-hour awards. What a fantastic achievement!

Carolyn Sands, Trustee of Ripon Walled Garden, expressed her gratitude for all they have done to support the charity. Between them, the girls have dressed as elves to help with our Christmas campaign, organised children’s games at Apple Day and Spring Fair, helped with bucket collections at Ripon Races and even designed and delivered an entire fundraising event!

As a charity supporting adults with learning disabilities, involving young people in our work is incredibly valuable. It helps raise awareness, break down barriers and foster greater understanding, while giving young people the opportunity to make a real difference in their community.

Jo also spoke to the girls about the many benefits of volunteering, from building confidence and developing life skills to opening up future education and employment opportunities. Volunteering also plays a vital role in creating stronger, more connected communities.

A huge thank you to Evie, Isla, Olivia and Rosie for their enthusiasm, commitment and generosity. We are incredibly proud of what you have achieved and look forward to presenting you with your fifty-hour certificates soon!
